BEND, Ore. — An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness at the Deschutes County Jail in Bend has ended.

The sheriff’s office said Thursday that inmates and staff no longer have symptoms.

About 40 inmates and eight workers were sickened this week by a norovirus, an illness that spreads fast in closed places.

The jail worked with the county health department on sanitation to control its spread.
