Efraimson set for Millrose showdown vs. Cain

The Columbian
Published: February 14, 2014, 4:00pm

Alexa Efraimson will run under her biggest spotlight yet today at the Millrose Games in New York City.

The Camas junior will compete against some of the world’s best, including high school phenom Mary Cain, in the Wanamaker Mile.

The race is scheduled for 1:18 p.m. Pacific time and will be broadcast live on the NBC Sport Network (Comcast Channel 32).

Both are running as fast as any high school athletes ever have. Cain, of Bronxville, N.Y., ran 2:35.80 in a 1,000 meter race one week ago, shaving nearly four seconds off her world junior indoor record.

Efraimson is two weeks removed from setting a high school record for the 3,000 at the University of Washington. Her time of 9:00.16 broke the 9:02.10 Cain had run the year before at the same age on the same track.
