Esther Short — Approximately 200 local nerds turned out for the opening night of Nerd Nite Vancouver, a lecture series that’s all about fascinating topics and fermented beverages.

Hosted by the Kiggins Theatre, Nerd Nite Vancouver’s premiere was a scientific look at love and desire — on Feb. 12, just in time for Valentine’s Day — with the added bonus of beers on tap from the bar upstairs. (Rumor has it that even folks who didn’t drink beer had a great time and learned something.)

The monthly series will continue with bats and birds on March 12, and bones and bodies — that is, forensic anthropology — on April 9. Admission is free, but donations are cheerfully accepted.
