TACOMA — Nearly four-dozen people demonstrated outside the federal Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma to protest deportations, and about five locked themselves together to block an entrance.
The demonstration started about 6:30 a.m. Monday. Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool says it broke up about 9:30 a.m. when the people blocking the street were asked to leave.
Cool says one woman who tried to stop a bus from departing was briefly detained and cited for disorderly conduct. She told KOMO Radio her husband was being deported Monday.
Organizers with the Not One More Deportation campaign complain the Obama administration has deported more people than the previous Bush administration.
Demonstrators carried “Not one more” signs. Another said, “Please don’t send my daddy back home. I need him here.”
