Pickets marking Thursday’s one-year anniversary at the Port of Vancouver’s grain terminal briefly blocked an entrance to the port this morning, as well as a nearby street.
Vancouver police were called to the entrance to the United Grain terminal at the port, which is off Thompson Road near Mill Plain Boulevard.
Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of a lockout of members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Negotiations to end the labor dispute have continued off-and-on as replacement workers operate the terminal.
Since the dispute began last February, union members have kept a vigil at the United Grain gate, which is one of several entrances to port facilities. The port’s main gate is off Fourth Plain Boulevard. Pickets have also walked on weekdays in front of a downtown Vancouver office building that houses a grain export company.
