DOVER, Del. (AP) — Casey Walker made two free throws with 25 seconds left and Gardner-Webb missed two shots in the closing seconds as Delaware State ended a five-game losing streak with a 66-65 win Thursday.

The Hornets (3-10) had rallied from 15 points down in the second half, in a big part because the Bulldogs (7-8) struggled from the foul line, hitting just 10 of 20 in regulation.

Tyrell Nelson’s two free throws put Gardner-Webb ahead in overtime but Kendall Gray’s three-point play at 2:50 put Delaware State up. Jerome Hill scored for the Bulldogs at 1:52, setting the stage for Walker, who led the Hornets with 21.

It was a Nelson three-point play that had Gardner-Webb up 45-31 less than five minutes into the second half.

Tyshawn Bell, who was not expected to play because of a sprained ankle, helped rally the Hornets with 10 points off the bench.
