College of Charleston beats James Madison 75-61

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Anthony Stitt tied his career high of 23 points, hitting 5 of 8 3-pointers, to lead College of Charleston to a 75-61 victory over James Madison Tuesday night.

The Cougars (9-7, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association), playing in their inaugural CAA game, opened with a victory over the defending champions.

Nori Johnson had 18 points, Joe Chealey added 12 and Anthony Thomas scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

The teams traded the lead throughout the first half of the initial period until the Cougars had a 14-4 run, capped by a 3-point shot by Thomas with 2:02 remaining to give them a 35-26 lead.

Hampton’s Andrey Semenov had a 3-pointer with 11:51 remaining to tie the game at 49. The Cougars followed with 12-0 run, with Johnson making two 3-pointers, to lead 61-49 with 7:21 remaining.

Charles Cooke had 21 points for James Madison (6-10, 1-1).
