SPOKANE — School officials in Spokane had hoped to arm resource officers by this month, but that goal has slipped to later this year.

The Spokesman-Review reports a new union contract between the district and the officers needs to be in place first, and then officers will need more training.

Spokane Public Schools decided to arm 14 resource officers at middle and high schools after the December 2012 school massacre in Newtown, Conn.
