Wagner coasts past CCSU in 88-59 win

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Marcus Burton scored 18 points to lead Wagner to an 88-59 win over Central Connecticut State in their Northeast Conference opener Thursday night.

Wagner (7-7, 1-0) broke away late in the first half on a 12-2 run fueled entirely by 3-pointers, with Burton hitting two of them, to take a 48-32 lead into the break. The Seahawks continued to pull away, outscoring CCSU in the second half 40-27 to keep the game out of reach.

Jay Harris contributed 14 points, Orlando Parker added 11 points and nine rebounds and Rivers had 11 points for Wagner, which shot 49 percent from the field and hit 12 of 20 from 3-point range.

Brandon Peel led the Blue Devils (4-10, 0-1) with 11 points, while Malcolm McMillan and Matt Mobley added 10 each.

It was the 37th meeting between the schools, with Wagner taking a 19-18 series lead.
