What’s all the hubbub about with the moronic comments made by Phil Robertson of the TV reality show “Duck Dynasty”? Of course Robertson has the right to subject us to his skewed way of thinking and of course The A&E Network has the right to temporarily sweep him under the rug for doing so. Where’s the controversy?
What should be the issue is the cowardice displayed by the A&E Network. They, along with most of the other networks, have been quick to put anything on TV that can be loosely termed a reality show. The costs are low, the return is high.
There is an old axiom, though, that suggests that you dance with the one that brung ya. Reality should be just that, warts and all. When someone like Robertson decides to pollute the air with his backward thinking, remember that you have the ultimate power of censorship. Turn off the TV, or the radio, or close the book.
A&E chose to glorify the “Duck Dynasty” folks and they should be the ones with their feet in the frying pan now. It’s a bit two-faced to fatten up on the success of these hillbilly knuckleheads and then run when true reality rears its ugly head.
