Southern U storms past Grambling State 73-49

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Malcolm Miller scored 19 points and Calvin Godfrey added 15 with 14 rebounds to propel Southern University past Grambling State 73-49 Saturday night.

Southern (7-9, 3-0 SWAC) jumped out to an early 16-3 lead as Malcolm Miller hit two 3-pointers and pushed the lead to 22 after a dunk by Miller at the 6:05 mark in the first half.

Terry Rose hit a jumper to open the scoring for Grambling State (1-11, 0-3 SWAC), but the Tigers missed their next seven field goal attempts until Richard Freeman sank a jumper and 3-pointer to make it 16-8.

The Jaguars shot 49.1 percent from the field and were 10 of 22 from beyond the arc. Tre Lynch scored 13 points and Trelun Banks chipped in 12.

Grambling State stumbled to a 32.6 shooting percentage and was outrebounded 41-30. A’Torri Shine led the Tigers with 13 point and Antwan Scott had 12.
