No. 20 NC State beats Wake Forest 62-54

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Kody Burke’s 18 points helped lead No. 20 North Carolina State to a 62-54 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday.

Both teams were off the mark shooting following the opening tip with NC State (15-2, 2-1 ACC) leading 20-15 at the end of the turnover ridden first half.

The Wolf Pack opened the second with a 12-5 run, capped by Markeisha Gatling’s jumper at 16:06 to go up 32-20.

Wake Forest (9-7, 0-3) stayed within striking distance over the next 14 minutes and trailed by just five points with 2:18 remaining on Millesa Calicott’s 3-pointer.

It became a free throw contest leading up to the final buzzer and NC State was able to make 9 of 15 tries in the final two minutes to preserve the victory.

The Demon Deacons shot only 30 percent from the floor and Dearica Hamby led the way with 13 points.
