Memphis upsets No. 23 Rutgers 74-73 in OT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Ariel Hearn scored 18 points Tuesday night and Asianna Fuqua-Bey sank two game-winning free throws in overtime as Memphis rallied to upset No. 23 Rutgers 74-73.

Pa’Sonna Hope scored 16 and grabbed 10 rebounds, Breigha Wilder-Cochran scored 12 and Fuqua-Bey finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Rutgers (13-3, 4-1 American Athletic Conference) led 36-27 at halftime, but Memphis (9-8, 2-3) rallied to take a 63-62 second-half lead at 1:59 on a free throw by Hope. Betnijah Laney’s jumper tied it at 66 at the end of regulation.

Copper answered a layup by Ariel Hearn with one of her own and Rutgers led 73-70 at 1:04 in OT, but Wilder-Cochran sank two free throws to make it a one-point game. Christa Evans was called for a foul with 9 seconds left and Fuqua-Bey made two free throws for the win.

Copper finished with 23, Scaife 21 and Laney added 15.
