Phil Mickelson commits to Phoenix Open

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Defending champion Phil Mickelson has officially committed to play the Phoenix Open.

Ian Poulter, Bill Haas and K.J. Choi also committed Tuesday to the Jan. 30-Feb. 2 event at TPC Scottsdale.

Mickelson is opening the year this week in the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi event and will play the Farmers Insurance Open next week at Torrey Pines.

Last year, Mickelson opened with a 60 and finished at a tournament-record 28-under 256. The former Arizona State star also won in 1996 and 2005.

Brandt Snedeker, Keegan Bradley, Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, Jimmy Walker, Hunter Mahan, Martin Kaymer, Nick Watney and Hideki Matsuyama also are in the field.
