SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Duda Sanadze hit two free throws with 5 seconds left to cap his career-high 25 points and help San Diego hold off Santa Clara 69-66 on Thursday night.

Santa Clara trailed 67-64 when it called timeout with 13 seconds left to run a play. The Toreros defensively anticipated the curl screen for Jared Brownridge and forced another SCU timeout with 8 seconds left.

Instead of defending, San Diego immediately sent Brownridge to the free-throw line. Brownridge and Sanadze traded free throws to make the score 69-66 and Evan Roquemore missed a desperation toss at the buzzer.

San Diego led 67-60 before Brandon Clark scored twice to cut Santa Clara’s deficit to three with 40 seconds remaining.

Dennis Kramer and Christopher Anderson scored 14 and 11, respectively, for the Toreros (11-8, 2-4 West Coast Conference).

Clark had 21 points and Brownridge added 19 for the Broncos (10-10, 3-4).
