KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Xavier Munford scored a season-high 28 points and Gilvydas Biruta made two free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining in overtime as Rhode Island rallied to defeat George Mason 71-69 and claim its first conference win Saturday.

The Rams (10-9, 1-3 Atlantic 10 Conference) were ahead 69-66 in overtime before Bryon Allen drew a foul on a desperation 3-point shot with 2 seconds left and made three free throws for George Mason (7-11, 0-4).

T.J. Buchanan fired a full-court pass to Biruta, who was fouled and made both free throws for the win. E.C. Matthews intercepted the inbounds pass, his fourth steal, to preserve Rhode Island’s first victory over George Mason.

Sherrod Wright led the Patriots with 12 points. George Mason shot 47 percent from the field to Rhode Island’s 38, but the Rams hit 75 percent in OT, with Munford scoring 10.

The Patriots led for the first 30 minutes.
