Savannah State defeats Bethune-Cookman 70-60, OT

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Keierre Richards scored five of his 17 points in overtime to lead Savannah State to a 70-60 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday night.

Richards hit a 3-pointer to open overtime to give Savannah State a 57-54 lead, and the Tigers lead the rest of the way.

Bethune-Cookman shot 2 of 8 from the field and made just two of six free throws in overtime.

Richards made one of two free throws to tie it at 54 with 13 seconds to play in regulation. Bethune-Cookman couldn’t answer when Clemmye Owens missed a potential game-winning layup with 2 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Jeremiah Hill scored 12 points for Savannah State (6-12, 4-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Terel Hall added 11 points.

Maurice Taylor scored 15 points to lead Bethune-Cookman (2-18, 0-5), who have lost 16 straight.
