Taylor Leier scored two goals, Chase De Leo assisted on four, Nic Petan assisted on three and Mathew Dumba made his Portland Winterhawks debut with two assists as the Winterhawks beat Moose Jaw 8-2 Friday in Western Hockey League action at the Memorial Coliseum.

Portland (29-12-2-3) scored four goals in the first period en route to the victory.

The Winterhawks led 5-0 before Moose Jaw (13-26-3-3) scored its first goal.

Dumba registered his first assist as a Hawk when he set up Derrick Pouliot for a third-period goal with a two-man advantage for a 6-1 lead. Moments later with the Hawks still on a power play, Dumba picked up another assist on a goal by Dominic Turgeon.

The Hawks return to action Sunday when they host the Spokane Chiefs at 3:30 in the Coliseum, with the arena’s curtains open to allow daylight into the bowl.
