Louisiana-Lafayette defeats Troy 72-59

TROY, Ala. (AP) — Shawn Long scored 18 points and had seven rebounds as Louisiana-Lafayette defeated Troy 72-59 on Saturday night.

Elfrid Payton had 14 points with eight assists and six rebounds for the Ragin’ Cajuns (12-6, 3-2 Sun Belt). Xavian Rimmer chipped in with 13 points. The team hit 54.2 percent from the field overall and hit 82.4 percent (14 of 17) from the line.

Louisiana-Lafayette trailed early in the first before coming back to lead 34-25 at the break.

The Trojans (7-11, 2-4) kept pace in the second period and came within one, 59-58, with 6 minutes left to play. But Long and Payton combined shots from inside the paint, from distance, and from the line in a 13-1 run to finish for the win.

Kevin Thomas led the Trojans with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
