BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana has hired Brian Knorr as its new defensive coordinator.

He replaces the recently fired Doug Mallory. Indiana set a Big Ten record in 2013 for yards allowed in league games and a school record for points allowed per game.

Knorr spent the past six seasons on Wake Forest’s coaching staff, the last three as defensive coordinator. In 2011, he switched to a 3-4 defensive front and the Demon Deacons improved in every defensive category.

Before joining Wake Forest, he was at Air Force for the second of his three-year stints at his alma mater. Knorr graduated from the military academy in 1986.

The former college quarterback has coached offense, defense and special teams in his 23-year coaching career. He also was Ohio University’s head coach from 2001-04.
