Brendan Burke stopped all 25 shots he faced, and Brendan Leipsic had two goals and an assist as the Portland Winterhawks shut out the Spokane Chiefs 5-0 Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

It was Burke’s fifth career shutout and the first of the season for the Winterhawks (30-12-2-3).

In the afternoon game with the Memorial Coliseum curtains open, the Hawks opened the scoring with just 41.5 seconds to go in the first period when Leipsic beat Spokane netminder Garret Hughson.

Portland added three goals in the second period. The first was from Chase De Leo followed by Keegan Iverson and Leipsic’s second of the game.

Oliver Bjorkstrand capped the scoring on a third-period power play.

The “Daylight Classic” drew 7,728 fans.

Also, Rian Maciog became the Winterhawks’ eight millionth fan and won tickets for the 2014 playoffs, season tickets for the 2014-15 season, and a spot in Friday’s Dash For Cash promotion.

The Hawks are back in action Monday when they host the Vancouver Giants at 7 p.m. in the Moda Center.
