SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Karl Cochran scored 23 points, connecting on 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and had five assists to lead Wofford past Western Carolina 71-60 Monday night.

Wofford (8-10, 3-3 Southern Conference) led by as many as 18 points on three occasions in the second half, the last of which came on a layup by Justin Skinner with 12:07 to play. Western Carolina used a 19-3 run to pull within two, 57-55, nearly 7 minutes later but a 3-pointer by Cochran sparked a 14-5 spurt to close the game and kill the Catamounts’ rally.

Spencer Collins, who finished with 15 points, made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 1:10 for Wofford. Lee Skinner scored 11 and grabbed 11 rebounds, recording his fourth consecutive double-double.

Trey Sumler paced Western Carolina (11-9, 4-1) with 20 points. James Sinclair added 13 and tied a career-high with four steals.
