BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Tim Williams scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Samford edged Elon 62-59 on Saturday.

Samford (9-13, 3-4 Southern Conference) never trailed the entire game and led by as many as 13 in the second half, but scored just four points in the final 7 minutes of the game.

Elon (10-11, 3-3) missed three potential game-tying 3-pointers in the final 1:12 — including one at the buzzer — as Samford handed the Phoenix their third straight loss.

Samford shot 52.3 percent from the field and held Elon to 39.2 percent. Williams was 7 of 10 on field goals while Raijon Kelly added 11 points for Samford and Tyler Hood had 10.

Jack Isenbarger led Elon with 16 points and Ryley Beaumont had 13.
