Iona gets by St. Peter’s 71-63.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — A.J. English scored 18 points in helping Iona move past St. Peters 71-63 on Sunday, remaining atop the Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference standings.

Iona’s Sean Armand added nine points and jumped three positions on the Iona all-time scoring list, moving to 14th place with 1,432 career points.

Iona (11-8, 8-2) led the Peacocks at halftime 44-27 after entering the game tied at the top of the MAAC with Manhattan and Canisius.

Iona pushed that lead to 21 points, 55-34, in the second half before St. Peters (7-12, 3-7) went to work in an effort to close the gap.

The Peacocks closed to within 10 points on a Desi Washington 3-pointer with 5 minutes to play but could get no closer than eight points at the buzzer.

St. Peter’s was led by Marvin Dominique’s 18 points, while Quadir Welton scored seven and grabbed 10 rebounds.
