BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the league is considering moving its annual pre-draft scouting combine from Toronto to Buffalo.

Bettman told The Associated Press by phone Tuesday the Sabres have submitted a proposal to host the combine at their downtown hockey/entertainment complex that is still under construction. Bettman says the NHL is taking the proposal “very seriously.”

The combine is run by the NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau and is traditionally held in Toronto in late May. It brings together the league’s top draft-eligible prospects for testing and workouts that are open to the NHL’s 30 teams.

The HarborCenter complex is to open in October and will feature two ice rinks, classroom space and a high-performance training facility.
