A California man is accused of sexually preying on a 10-year-old girl in an online chat room and later starting a relationship with the girl’s mother before moving into their Washougal home.

Keven Carlson-Aguilar, 26, appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. He will be arraigned on the charges Jan. 31. Judge David Gregerson held him on $75,000 bail and appointed Vancouver attorney Jeffrey Barrar to defend Carlson-Aguilar.

Carlson-Aguilar of Glendale, Calif., met the girl in an online chat forum in March 2009, according to a court affidavit.

“Their initial conversation involved Keven trying to convince (the girl) that it was not a bad thing for older guys to date younger women,” Washougal police Officer Zane Freschette wrote in the affidavit.

Gradually, Carlson-Aguilar and the girl began communicating via other instant-messaging services, including Facebook, AOL and YouTube, and by phone, according to the court affidavit.

The girl said she and Carlson-Aguilar were “in love,” Freschette wrote. During the chats, he would describe sexual acts he planned to perform on her when they finally met in person, according to the affidavit. He also requested nude photos of her, but she said she never sent any, the affidavit states.

He eventually began speaking with the girl’s mother, though the affidavit doesn’t explain how that happened.

The mother was aware of Carlson-Aguilar’s age but not of the sexual nature of his conversations with her daughter, the affidavit says.

The mother said that the girl “has always been very advanced and interested in older people rather than people her own age,” Freschette wrote.

“She felt as though Keven was serving as a father figure,” Freschette added.

The girl told police that she ended her romantic relationship with him in October 2010. Meanwhile, her mother continued to communicate with him and developed romantic feelings for him, according to the affidavit. In February 2011, he moved to Washougal and rented a room in their residence until April 2011, the affidavit states. The girl told police that she and Carlson-Aguilar never had sexual contact during that period, the affidavit states.

The relationship between the mother and Carlson-Aguilar continued after he moved out of her residence, according to the affidavit. It’s unclear when the relationship between him and the mother turned sexual, but in January 2012, the mother noticed he wasn’t interested in having sex with her anymore, the affidavit says. After an evening of drinking, the mother asked him why he didn’t want to have sex, the affidavit says. He allegedly confessed to her that he is a pedophile but that he had never acted on his urges. She eventually asked him to stay away from her home, the affidavit says.
