Campbell defeats Charleston Southern 65-57

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Reco McCarter scored 14 points and had a career-high eight assists to guide a balanced attack as Campbell defeated Charleston Southern 65-57 Wednesday.

Darius Leonard added 14 points, Luke Moyer 13 and Leek Leek 11 for the Fighting Camels (11-11, 5-2 Big South), who remain on top of the North Division standings.

Campbell made 11 of 24 3’s with Moyer coming off the bench to hit 4 of 5 for a career high in points. The Camels had 10 blocked shots.

Charleston Southern (9-11, 3-4) shot just 32.8 percent, including 6 of 29 from 3-point range after entering the game average 11.1 3’s, second in the country.

Matt Kennedy had 20 points for the Buccaneers and Paul Gombwer had a career-high 16 rebounds.

Campbell put together an 18-4 run, with Moyer and Leek getting two 3’s apiece to build a 38-29 lead at the half.
