PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police say a man suspected of shooting a neighbor in the leg is being treated for accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his testicles.

Sgt. Pete Simpson told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/ALkDR6 ) the 40-year-old man’s wound is “consistent with somebody putting a gun in his pants.”

The initial shooting occurred Tuesday night in the parking lot of a downtown apartment building near Portland State University.

The wounded 32-year-old man ran to Safeway store for help. He was later taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

Police say the suspect shot himself while trying to leave the scene.
