Letter: Agency delivers many services

Perhaps Gerry Parmantier isn’t old enough to remember when abortions were illegal. Millions of women either tried to do abortions on themselves with a coat hanger or went to back alley abortionists. Many women died during this era or were left permanently scarred by these procedures, leaving them unable to ever have another child.

But in the Jan. 16 letter “Rally against abortion,” Parmantier skewed the facts to fit his agenda. Per the latest Planned Parenthood year-end, CPA-audited financial statement, they performed 10,933,676 various services for men and women. That includes 327,166 abortions, 1,167,755 pregnancy tests and prenatal services, 4,469,308 STD tests and treatments, 3,724,558 contraceptions and 1,121,580 cancer screenings.

Of the above, the government and other health services grants covered only 45 percent. The balance, 55 percent, were from private donations.

So, Planned Parenthood does so much more than what Parmantier mentioned. Their services are open to everyone, regardless of age.
