Woodland to hold hearing on medical marijuana ban

WOODLAND — Next month, Woodland will become the latest local small city to consider a ban on collective gardens for medical marijuana.

The city plans to host a hearing on Aug. 4 to gather public input on a proposed six-month moratorium. Anyone can attend and speak or submit written comments about the issue.

Woodland wouldn’t be the first to impose a moratorium. A number of cities enacted temporary bans on collective gardens after the Legislature approved them as a means for obtaining medical marijuana in 2011.

A ban in Battle Ground will carry through to mid-December. And the Washougal City Council plans to address its moratorium this summer before it expires in September.

The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the Woodland City Hall council chambers, 200 E. Scott Ave., Woodland. To submit written comments or find more information, contact Amanda Smeller, the city’s community development planner, at 360-225-1048 or smellera@ci.woodland.wa.us.
