Letter: Protect the shore of the Columbia

The Columbian
Published: July 21, 2014, 12:00am

As reported in the July 17 article “Tesoro gives to local GOP members,” so now Tesoro is giving campaign money to Republican candidates. Should not the controversy of building an oil terminal in the Port of Vancouver be a nonpartisan issue? Yes, jobs and the economy are important. So let’s get creative and think of other ways to create jobs that will not cause potential damage to our environment and threaten our safety. To develop the shore of the Columbia River with user-friendly facilities for locals and tourists could be a huge asset for Vancouver. Come on Republicans, please think outside the oil box.
