Firehouse Subs is donating nearly $20,000 worth of firefighting equipment to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.

The national sandwich chain — founded by a couple of former firefighters — donates equipment to departments all around the country. Since 2005, the company’s Public Safety Foundation has made more than $10 million worth of donations to emergency responders across the nation.

This latest gift is the first to a department in Washington. It includes 10 complete sets of firefighting turnout gear — the protective clothing firefighters wear while trying to put out a fire.

Vancouver’s Firehouse Subs franchise will host a celebration with local firefighters today at 10:30 a.m. to mark the occasion. The restaurant is at 19151 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd.
