La Center — An 8-year-old boy was honored as La Center’s “Chief for a Day” this month.

Brooklyn Johnson was sworn in by La Center Police Chief Marc Denney at the start of the annual July 4 children’s parade at Felida Park.

Brooklyn was also applauded during a La Center City Council meeting on July 9. The Chief for a Day program of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission honors kids with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.

La Center is the latest city in Clark County to take part in the expanding program. Battle Ground swore in its own honorary chief, 8-year-old Chase Getch, in April.
