PORTLAND — Gov. John Kitzhaber says the 50 immigrant children from the Mexican border who have been relocated this year in Oregon are welcome.

He says the state will continue to welcome children fleeing hardship and violence while waiting for Congress to change immigration policies. He says the children don’t “deserve to become political fodder.”

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released information Thursday on relocated children.

Washington received 211 children.
