Family hosts 5K to fund research

A local family is hosting a One Small Step 5K run/walk to raise money for Prader-Willi syndrome research.

The event is one of more than 70 being held internationally. Prader-Willi syndrome is a rare disorder that affects many of the body’s systems and causes a number of physical and mental challenges. The disorder is most notable for causing an uncontrollable urge to eat. There is no cure.

The One Small Step 5K begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at Klineline Pond, 1112 N.E. 117th St. Registration begins at 9 a.m. A free kids 1/4-mile kids run begins at 10 a.m.

Money raised will benefit the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research.
