You printed a letter from a Gary S. Smith, “Obvious bias reflected,” on May 18. Your willingness to do so demonstrates that you can take a punch.

On the other hand, the content of the letter deviates from the usual policy that we see exercised by the paper in that Smith refers to “liberal/socialist whiners,” “liberal drivel,” “low information people,” “environmental wackos,” etc. I support Smith’s right to have strong opinions about issues but I don’t agree with his assessment of either the Columbian’s bias nor his attack-style delivery. Our community faces serious questions, and all citizens who participate in the discussion deserve better.
