Washougal — Think marching in a parade while playing music is easy?

“You have to be doing ten things at one time,” said eighth grade flutist Braelyn Higdon of the Jemtegaard Middle School marching band. You are looking forward, looking right, playing music, walking, stopping, marching in place. And playing the same song like 20 times in a row!”

The community got a sample of that hard work, as the Jemtegaard band marched through downtown Washougal on May 30 in a preview of its June 4 appearance at the Portland Junior Rose Festival Parade.

This year’s parade theme, “Making Memories,” lead to the selection of three Disney tunes for the band: “Mickey Mouse March,” “It’s a Small World” and “Zip a Dee Doo Dah.”
