PORTLAND — A United Airlines flight from Portland to Houston returned to the airport shortly after takeoff Tuesday morning and landed successfully after the crew was unable to raise the aircraft’s landing gear.

Portland International Airport spokesman Steve Johnson said the plane made what looked like a smooth landing about 7 a.m., and there were no reports of injuries.
