BRIDGEPORT — A wildfire that broke out Tuesday evening in Douglas County south of Bridgeport has grown to 400 acres — more than half a square mile.

Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Janet Pearce says it’s burning grass and brush.

A helicopter and a 20-person Forest Service hotshot crew from Entiat were dispatched Wednesday to help local firefighters.

Pearce says drying weather has increased the fire danger in Eastern Washington and a red flag warning could be issued Wednesday afternoon.

Another wildfire Tuesday burned about 300 acres near Ellensburg.

KPQ reports a brush fire Tuesday night threatened homes in East Wenatchee before it was contained.

And, Douglas County Fire District 1 Chief Dale Jordan told KPQ a 25-acre brush fire near Waterville on Tuesday afternoon may have been started by lightning.
