Fire destroyed the kitchen and dining room of a home Thursday in Salmon Creek near Washington State University Vancouver.

A neighbor reported hearing an explosion at the home, 15107 N.E. 25th Court, which was actually heat blowing out the kitchen window, said Sarah Mitchelson, public information officer for Fire District 6.

Four fire engines and a fire truck were sent to the house, with about 23 firefighters in total. The first arriving firefighters saw smoke coming out of most of the windows of the one-story house.

The homeowner was home at the time, and he was not injured, Mitchelson said.

It was difficult to discern the origin of the fire, which ripped through the kitchen and attached dining room. The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
