Letter: Propaganda provokes racism

The Columbian
Published: June 6, 2014, 5:00pm

The political cartoon published June 3 showing a caricature of an Arab with the label “TERRORISTS” on his sleeve is telling. It tells me that racism and anti-Muslim propaganda are very strong in the minds of most people.

I would fathom that if I did a funny cartoon showing the 2-day attack on the USS Liberty by Israeli jets on June 8, 1967, that it would not be published. I would be seen as an anti-Semite for putting out historical fact. Perhaps I should do a cartoon showcasing the 1954 Lavon Affair (aka Operation Mockingbird), when Israel planned to bomb U.S. citizens and dignitaries at embassies and theaters and then blame it all on Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood to get the U.S. to wage war in Egypt. Iranian students held 52 people hostage for 444 days, then returned them, alive and in good health. Iranians are not Arabs, by the way. And Arabs were part of the Semitic tribes. So, why the anti-Persian and anti-Arab propaganda, when, indeed, Israel has proven itself to be a criminal state?

None dare call it conspiracy.
