Letter: Vote for a change; elect Owens

The Columbian
Published: June 12, 2014, 5:00pm

Columbian articles have covered the Clark County Sheriff’s race and the security gun lockers for deputies’ weapons while in their homes.

Marc Tobias, a contributor to Forbes publications, finds the tragic death of 3-year-old Ryan Owens was the result of the department-issued Stack-On strong box that could be opened by a child with little effort. Sheriff candidate Chuck Atkins says he would investigate these lockers if elected — but as part of the administration that issued these safes, why hasn’t he checked them already? After children are tragically killed and little corrective action, it is time for a change.

I am going with Ed Owens, a former deputy and combat veteran. Owens has a lifetime of duty, sacrifice and honor.
