CASHMERE — Firefighters hope to contain a 200-acre wildfire near Cashmere on Thursday.
Central Washington Interagency Communications Center spokeswoman Robin DeMario in Wenatchee says the fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon died down overnight although it was still smoking Thursday morning. Cooler weather with a chance of showers is helping.
More than 60 firefighters are mopping up with helicopters standing by.
The fire burned grass, brush and light timber in Hay Canyon about two miles north of Cashmere. The residents of one home were told to evacuate because of the proximity of the fire, although it was not directly threatened.
