Letter: Denying others’ rights is irrational

In response to Sherry Winkleblack’s June 14 letter “Post clear instructions at entrance,” I would say “no” to posting “No Firearms Allowed.”

Winkleblack has an unreasonable fear of inanimate objects. Frightened of cars? They kill more people each year than guns.

Would she be afraid of an armed uniformed police officer in the same setting? Probably not. Why then fear when an ordinary person openly carries? I doubt she realizes that she’s surrounded by people who carry concealed guns.

By citing RCW 9.41.270, she left out a lot. Section One reads “It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons.” Like most people who want to disarm Americans, she only included the word “firearm.” Twisting facts to suit her purpose.

I certainly doubt these men she described as “open-carrying pistols” warranted alarm. Because of her unreasonable fears, she wants to deny everyone the right to openly carry. How can she condone the need of one outweighing the rights of many?
