SALEM, Ore. — There have been 19 motorcycle fatalities so far this year in Oregon — more than twice the nine deaths last year in the same period through mid-June.
The Oregon Department of Transportation says many of the fatal crashes are due to unsafe riding — speeding, following too close and abrupt lane changes.
The department is urging motorcyclist to ride safely, and it’s reminding all vehicle drivers to share the road with motorcycles.
There were a total of 33 motorcycle deaths in the state last year and 51 in 2012.
