CENTRALIA — A Centralia police officer fatally shot a man who pulled a gun in a fight over a burrito shoplifted from a convenience store.

Police spokesman John Panco says the officer was trying to arrest the suspect Sunday morning when he resisted. When he pulled out a handgun the officer fired, and the 43-year-old Centralia man died at the scene.

Centralia Police Chief Bob Berg told The Chronicle that the officer had his police dog, Lobo, with him. And Lobo was crucial to protecting the officer by biting the suspect during the fight.
