A century-old cash register was recently discovered stashed behind a wall in one of Vancouver’s oldest businesses.

The brass antique was discovered at Sparks Home Furnishings, 1001 Broadway.

The business will be sold and the discovery was part of that transition, said Tom Craig, the president of the 132-year-old business.

“A construction management team was poking around the building and found a panel” in a wall in a stairway, Craig said.

When the panel was removed, they found the cash register. There were some old papers in it, but no cash.
