SEATTLE — The site of Washington’s deadliest mass killing — the 1983 Wah Mee massacre — will be demolished because a Christmas Eve fire left the Chinatown building unsafe.
The family that owns the 104-year-old building told KING that the structure is compromised.
The three-story building was once a hotel with stores on the first floor. The gambling club in the basement was the scene of the robbery and shooting that killed 13 people.
A member of the family that owns the building, Teri Woo, says a vigil will be held for the victims.
The family plans to rebuild with apartments and stores on the site.
