Letter: New jobs boost our local economy

There is a lot of discussion going on regarding allowing an oil terminal to be built by Tesoro-Savage at the Port of Vancouver.

I have lived in downtown Vancouver for only 11 months. In that time, within a quarter-mile of my condo, I have witnessed five businesses closing. I expect many more to follow because of the lack of customers. I witness block after block of empty buildings, where businesses have failed and no new businesses have started.

These buildings remain empty for years.

If I were a city leader, I would make every effort to attract new businesses and make sure Vancouver leadership participated in bringing this oil terminal to Vancouver.
