A pregnant woman and her unborn child died in a crash Monday on state Route 169 east of Renton.

Marina Simons, 24, died after the 2002 Honda Accord she was driving left the roadway and hit a sign about 11:45 a.m., and as she went to get back on the road, she crossed into the northbound lanes and was hit by a 2001 Nissan Altima, the State Patrol said.

An 18-month-old girl who was in the Accord was recovering, trooper Chris Webb said.

The driver of the Nissan, a 34-year-old Maple Valley woman, was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.

What caused the crash was still being investigated.
